note: The Cathedral is based on a story about the dining hall at New College,
Oxford University, England. The hall was built in 1379 with massive oak ceiling beams.
When the beetle-infested beams had to be replaced in the 1860's, the story goes, there
were no more oaks of that size to be found. It was discovered, quite through chance, that
the original builders had the college forester plant and maintain oaks in another part of
the country. Those oaks were reserved for the New College dining hall.
